2002 Golden Joystick Awards Wrap-Up

At today’s Golden Joystick Awards ceremony, Microsoft’s console, the Xbox, took top honors as the winner of the award for “Hardware of the Year.” Xbox finished ahead of the the AMD Athlon XP Processor, as well as Nintendo’s Gamecube console as the number one choice for hardware according to gamers worldwide.


A variety of Xbox games were honored as well. Halo was the runner up as the best game of the year, and was named Xbox game of the year. Runners up for the Xbox game of the year include Dead or Alive 3, as well as Max Payne. Max Payne was also honored for its innovation, receiving runner up honors in the “Best Game Innovation” category for it’s bullet time feature. The online game of the year was Counter –Strike, which is important to note because it is on it’s way to Xbox and will utilize the Xbox Live service. And finally, Splinter Cell was the runner up for most wanted game for Christmas.


It is clear that Xbox’s popularity has gone up as its capabilities have become more widely known around the global gaming community. As more time passes, we can only expect to see more accolades, and even more popularity amass for everyone’s favorite Microsoft gaming console.
