4 Disney worlds Kingdom Hearts 3 needs to avoid

The Nightmare Before Christmas – Halloweentown

This doesn't need any explanation. Jack Skellington more than wore out his welcome after the first two games and there hasn't been any new films featuring him or the franchise in many years. And, by the way, how much of Tim Burton's freakiness can we take, right? I think it's time we move on.

Winnie the Pooh

As iconic as Pooh and company are, I don't believe they should be in Kingdom Hearts 3. The emphasis of Kingdom Hearts is a villian and a protagonist. There is no villain in the 100 Acre Wood unless you count Pooh's silliness or Eor's ridiculousness manic depression that could make even Mickey Mouse himself pop a Xanex. With the absence of a villain and any real protagonist, the 100 Acre Wood, if mentioned at all, needs to be no more than a reference point in order to maintain the storyline and lore that Sora and Roxas have experienced so far.

In light of Square Enix announcing Tangled as a new world coming in Kingdom Hearts 3, we posted yesterday four additional Disney-inspired worlds we'd like to see in the game. You might've noticed Frozen was not on the list. While we've all come to accept that Frozen, in all likelihood, will be part of Kingdom Hearts 3, that doesn't mean we want to see it. Without further ado, we present to you four Disney films we don't want to see in Kingdom Hearts 3.

Frozen

I get it, Frozen is a popular if not the most popular Disney movie to come out in a long time. But ask yourself this, why is that exactly? The answer is, quite simply, marketing. In general, the movie wasn't very good if you're honest with yourself. The songs were catchy, but the overall story of the film, along with the needless throw-ins of the rock trolls, left one of those "trying too hard" feelings. All the pre-release marketing made it feel like the film was about a reindeer and snowman and not until I saw it with my daughter for the first time did I actually see a princess.

Disney is the king of marketing and they get it. The jokes are for adults while the colors and catchy songs tie in the children to the movies. On the other hand, there is no real villain in Frozen to allow for it to function as a playable world in Kingdom Hearts 3.

I understand it will most likely end up in the game, but it needs to know its place. Hans is not your prototypical villain that can support a full, playable world similar to Atlantica or the Pridelands of the Lion King. In order to Frozen to succeed in Kingdom Hearts 3, it needs to serve as more of a pass through world similar to the 100 Acre Wood or Stitch's appearance as in the first two games. Even though we hope it's not in the game, logic would dictate that with the film's success it will make an appearance of some sort.

The Little Mermaid

Ariel's adventure in the original Kingdom Hearts was well played out. The utilization of Ursula and the implementation of gameplay for her and the world of the game was seamless. Kingdom Hearts 2 is where it all fell apart, as we saw Atlantica's return as mostly a giant quick-time event. Every franchise has its "old standby" and by all means The Little Mermaid is Disney's. It's a phenomenal movie and one of my personal favorites, but with so many new films and characters to utilize in the ten years since Kingdom Hearts 2 and the franchise's lackluster use in that game, it's time to showcase some of Disney's newer IP's.
