5 4K TVs we’d recommend for PS5 and Xbox Series X

With PS5 and Xbox Series X just 3 weeks away, it’s time to take a hard look at your TV. I personally just upgraded from a 1080p TV to a new 4K OLED and it’s beautiful. If you’re looking to get the most out of the PS5 or Xbox Series X, you’ll need the right TV.

We’ve organized a list of 5 TVs that will work best for the next-generation of consoles. We picked TVs for each price range (low budget, mid-tier, and higher-end), all TVs will be at least somewhat reasonable. That means no 8K TVs will be on this list, though those are available and the PS5/Xbox Series X will support them in the coming years. It will work if you hook it up, it just won’t be native 8K. So for now, it’s best to stick with 4K and wait for the price to drop on 8K as technology catches up.

LG CX 2020 OLED – $1,499 (55 inch, also comes in 48, 65, and 77)

This is the TV I just purchased, it’s incredible and the best TV on this list. The LG CX is one of the best TVs I’ve ever seen. It’s thinner than my iPhone, has one of the best screens, and is loaded with great features. It supports 4K/120hz with super low input lag which is going to be optimal for games that have 120FPS support. The 120hz will give you a super fast refresh rate, opting for smoother gameplay.

Most games on current-gen sit between 30 – 60 FPS, this means we will getting at least double the frame-rate. Games like Dirt 5, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Black Ops Cold War, and more will support 120FPS. The TV utilizes variable refresh rates to create a sleek, smooth experience even at lower, more standard frame rates.

On top of offering a very responsive gaming, OLED displays offer a rich visual experience. You’re going to get deeper blacks, great contrast and vibrancy, and high-quality HDR. The LG CX also supports Dolby Vision which will be coming to Xbox Series X in the coming months. It’s going to give you the most bang for your buck while also delivering the best gaming experience.

LG also has a great selection of apps such as Apple TV, Movies Anywhere, and the ones you’d expect like Netflix. It has just about everything you’d need for whatever you want to use this TV for. The LG CX is pretty much the best possible choice for PS5 and Xbox Series X gamers.

Samsung Q80T QLED – $1,197.99 (55 inch, also comes in 49 and 50 at 60hz. 55, 65, 75, and 85 are 120hz)

Samsung’s Q80T QLED is another beauty. The upside of this one, outside of being a bit cheaper, is that there’s a lot of protection against image burn-in. The QLED will have a less rich experience with its colors but only in comparison to the LG CX. It’s going to be a massive step up from any other TV on the market, albeit without Dolby Vision.

The Q80T will still offer a very responsive gaming experience with that glorious 4K/120hz set-up. The downside is if you’re planning to invest in both Xbox Series X and PS5, you’re going to have to swap ports if you want to make full use of the 4K/120hz. The Q80T has only 1 HDMI 2.1 port, which is capable of giving the full bandwidth for 4K/120hz. The LG CX, however, has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports.

The Samsung Q80T is a great runner-up for the best TV for Xbox Series X and PS5.

Sony X900H – $949.99 (55 inch, also comes in 65, 75, and 85)

Sony X900H has been labeled by Sony as “Ready for PlayStation 5”. It’s basically certified next-gen ready… with a big asterisk. The variable refresh rate and low-latency input lag will not be available in November, they will be added in an update in Winter 2020 and Spring 2021.

That said, when it’s added, it will allow for full 4K/120hz. Throw in a vibrant LED screen with Dolby Vision and you have a solid 4K TV for Xbox Series X and PS5.

TCL 6-Series – $649.99 (55 inch, also comes in 65 and 75)

Yet another QLED for this list, ensuring you get some beautiful visuals and colors. It even packs Dolby Vision, something the Samsung Q80T does not, which is very impressive. It’s a really great TV for its price and offers 120hz and 4K, but not atw the same time as it has no HDMI 2.1. You’ll have to choose between 4K/60 or 1440p/120, which is still good for the price.

Samsung 7 Series – $399.99 (55 inch, also comes in 43, 50, 58, 65, 70, 75)

Samsung has a good budget 4K TV but at a cost. You’re going to miss out on some key Xbox Series X and PS5 features like 4K/120hz. You can get 4K/60hz but anything past that is going to be inaccessible. The HDR will give you rich colors on a cheap yet still beautiful display. This Samsung TV is going to be purely for resolution rather than performance.

Xbox Series X will release on November 10th and PS5 on November 12th.
