5 Assassin’s Creed 5 locations that would be awesome but will probably never happen

By now, any Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag player knows about the communications that hint at possible Assassin's Creed 5 locations. Most of the places listed were done already in previous games, but there were some interesting locations and historical moments, some being: Egypt and Norther Africa, Japan, French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. One of these will most likely be the setting for the next game in Ubisoft's popular franchise, in addition to a Pirate-themed game.

While Ubisoft has been coy and distant from anything that involves a Feudal Japan AC game, creative director Jean Guesdon recently told VG247 that it remains one of the time periods and locations that they're considering.

Previous settings have involved the Renaissance, American Revolution, Damascus, and the Golden Age of Piracy. As awesome as Feudal Japan would be, how likely is it to happen? That got me thinking of some other scenarios that would make for a great Assassin's Creed game, but are unlikely to happen. Here they are:

1. United States, Russia and Germany during the Cold War

I think the idea of an Assassin's Creed game at the height of the Cold War intrigues me the most. Think of all the cool assassin-y stuff you could do as a Cold War spy. Think of all the possible secret missions that could be experienced. Heck, we can even tie in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. There's tons of potential for story and where Ubisoft could take things. I don't see any room for sword play, but the type of new gadgets you could use would more than make up for it. And I'd love to see how some of these countries' cities play when you're free-running through them. I picture this as a Tom Clancy novel mixed with parkour.

2. War-torn Europe during World War II

Italy, Poland, Germany, France, the United Kingdom — war-torn Europe during WWII would give the Assassin's Creed franchise new life, acting as a breath of fresh air. As the deadliest conflict in human history, WWII is the perfect setting for a Templar-Assassins conflict. You could be tasked with taking out German generals and officers, foiling their quest for an atomic bomb, and maybe even going after Hitler. Sneaking around a German-occupied Poland, witnessing the invasion of France, surviving bombings in London, and playing a key role in D-Day would be amazing set pieces. There's also a wide array of new weapons and devices that would be used. I don't see a sword coming into play, and guns would be much more prevalent, but the hidden blade will never go away.

3. Feudal Japan… of course

I'm pretty sure this is the setting that everyone wants to see. There's a chance we will eventually get it, as Ubisoft is more than happy to release an Assassin's Creed game every year. They'll run out of ideas and have to do this sooner or later. This really doesn't need much of an explanation, since so many people have commented on the matter. All you need to know is this: Samurai. F*ck yea.

4. Civil War

The bloodiest war ever fought on American soil, the Civil War's struggle between North and South could easily be setup as Assassins versus Templars. We can still get the swordplay that the Assassin's Creed series has had since the beginning, since officers still wielded them. You also have bayonets, which were present in AC3. We'd also see the first clash of Ironclad warships in 1862 during the Civil War, so while naval combat would have to be changed and adjusted, it would still be included in the game. Some other great moments that the game could have is the attack on Fort Sumter, Gettysburg, the assault on Fort Wagner by the first all-black regiment, the Battle of Chickamauga, and the assassination of President Lincoln.

5. British 5th/6th Century Arthurian legend

This idea really excites me. I'm a big fan of Arthurian Legend and mythical creatures. I realize that the real King Arthur isn't how movies and entertainment portray him. But the King Arthur of the Medieval era / Middle Ages — instead of the Celtic mythos — could be a lot more fun for an assassin with a mission. So the history behind King Arthur is greatly debated; that allows Ubisoft to put a spin on it, tie in aliens or religion or whatever twists and turns they want, and make a kick-ass game that could include battles against mythical creatures. Missions for or against the Knights of the Round Table would be cool, too.
