5 offbeat DLC characters that would be fun to play as in Mortal Kombat X

Video games are supposed to be fun, right? That's why we all started playing them – because they were fun. Well, I'm not having too much fun this week. It's not the games' fault. It's this community. It seems like everyone takes everything way too seriously. I deal with enough social issues throughout the week; I don't need them constantly coming up in video games.

So let's have a little fun then, shall we?

It was brought to my attention earlier today that Kiefer Sutherland will not be in Mortal Kombat X. I replied with, “Matthew McConaughey is not in Mortal Kombat X.” Little did I know, despite being a huge 24 fan, was that Sutherland said a while back that he worked on Mortal Kombat. Go figure. When series creator Ed Boon was asked about Sutherland's role, Ed Boon said he is not in Mortal Kombat X. Now I want Sutherland to be in the game!

My mind is racing with possible characters that would be fun to play as in Mortal Kombat X, so here are five of those characters. (Note: WB Games and NetherRealm Studios did not pay me to write things about MKX. Nor am I backing them monetarily. I was not promised any copies of MKX when it releases.)

Jack Bauer

This is one way to get Kiefer Sutherland in the game – have Jack Bauer as a DLC character. If Freddy Krueger could be a playable character, why not Jack Bauer? He could fight for Earth realm! Jack can hold his own in hand-to-hand combat, is an expert with firearms, and as recently as this last season can use a katana. And think of all of the fatalities there could be for him, every different method he has used to torture someone.

Hayden Christensen

I'm nervous about putting this one in here, because I want MKX to be good, and whatever Hayden Christensen is in is the opposite of good. That said, he can kill opponents with his horrible acting and lack of emotional range. Mainly he's on this list because I think it would be fun to break a few of Hayden Christensen's bones as a nice thank you for Episodes II through III.

Frank Underwood

I don't even care that Frank Underwood wouldn't have a normal skillset of moves. He's got power. There'd be no punches or kicks. Instead, he'd beat you with his mind games and manipulation. He'd deflect attacks while he has Doug Stamper dig up dirty secrets from your past. While you go in for an attack, he'd be convincing you that it's really someone else that you want to attack. Then he'll kill your dog, push you off of a subway platform into a train, and leave you in your car to die of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Red and Red

This isn't my love of Captain Janeway speaking here. I honestly believe Kate Mulgrew's character in Orange is the New Black, Red, would be awesome to play as in MKX. She's a deep character, a strong woman, and she can scrap. That thick Russian accent and bright red hair will send Shao Kahn running. If that doesn't excite you, how about playing as Red from Transistor? She's got tons of abilities, tons of customization for those abilities, and a cool weapon. And she can slow down time to plan her attack.

Chuck as portrayed by Zachary Levi

I'm a huge fan of the now-finished NBC spy show, Chuck. The titular character, portrayed by Zachary Levi, is someone that you can't help but like. He's the good guy that MKX needs. With the Intersect, he's an overpowered spy that knows every secret and is unable to be defeated in hand-to-hand combat. Without it, he relies on wit, charm, courage and years of training to hold his own. But there's one catch – he can't kill anybody. His fatalities could even have him beating someone, and then looking to Sarah and John Casey and telling them he can't do it. Let's not forget an awesome cameo that could be made by Jeffster!

What characters (from any medium) do you think would be fun to play as? Let us know!
