With open job positions at Rockstar San Diego, the developers behind Red Dead Revolver and Red Dead Redemption, evidence points to a new entry into the Red Dead franchise. It’s not an entirely unfounded idea.
Rockstar recently teased Red Dead Redemption 2 in their “Asked & Answered” feature:
“As we’ve mentioned when asked in the past about new games in other series such as Red Dead Redemption, Bully, and L.A. Noire, we don’t always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won’t get to them eventually. We have so many games we want to make and the issue is always one of bandwidth and timing. We thank longtime fans such as yourselves as always for your amazing support and please stay tuned in 2015 for announcements of what’s to come from Rockstar Games.”
We can’t help but imagine what RDR2 would be like and what features we would like to see in the game.
Offbeat DLC is all the rage nowadays. Before Ubisoft was rippin’ and tearin’ with the Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon DLC, Rockstar had a DLC for Red Dead Redemption called Undead Nightmare. It was an entirely new single-player campaign where John Marston was trying to cure an infection Undead plague that was sweeping across the frontier. There was something so brilliant and fresh about the way Rockstar introduced zombies into the game, cleansing towns of the outbreak and fighting off tons of Undead. While it wouldn’t have to be zombies again (though we wouldn’t mind), we definitely want another awesome DLC like this one that introduces something bizarre and unexpected.
Red Dead Redemption is an amazing game with an excellent story, but it doesn’t give you a whole lot of choice into John Marston’s actions. As we’ve seen in more recent games, there can be choices made in the main story that feel like they have a sense of purpose and meaning to them, while still keeping the amazing tone and ending. Things like choosing which character or group to support, or which mission route you think is better, or which group member is to sent to their death have an impact on the player.
As amazing as the open-world of Red Dead Redemption is, it can feel a bit barren. There’s a whole lot of nothin’ going on. The random events and encounters are great, so more of those would be welcome. Hostage situations, executions, duels, train robberies, we love ‘em all. Like Skyrim, Far Cry 4 and other open-world games, we want to get lost in the world and stumble upon things to do while exploring — not just doing quests and missions. Essentially, we want to feel like we are doing something while doing nothing.
The open-world of Red Dead Redemption was amazing. Though barren in spots, it had life and helped create the overall tone of the game. While we love the American Frontier setting, using the exact same location and look would feel like a repeat of what we’ve already done. If they’re going to use the same areas of New Austin, West Elizabeth, and Nuevo Paraiso, we need to see more cities going up and the frontier starting to become civilized. Technology and civilization expanding and advancing in that area would change the feel of the game, but it’s the logical route. Or we can go somewhere entirely different. Wherever and whatever they do, we trust Rockstar to get us hooked all over again.
Red Dead Redemption introduced co-op via the DLC pack Outlaws to the End. There were six co-op missions for two to four players online, where you complete the missions and earn XP for one of four playable classes — Soldier, Miner, Marksman and Gunslinger. We think Rockstar should expand on this, to something like Ubisoft did with Far Cry 4 where everything can be played co-op except the main story missions. We’re not asking for something like GTA V’s GTA Online — though that would be amazing — but playing co-op in this amazing wild west and taking on missions with a friend would be awesome
These are five of the many things we would like to see in Red Dead Redemption 2. We are sure it’s going to be amazing either way. What are some things you’d like to see?
