5 things we hope to see in Batman: Arkham Knight

With Batman Arkham Knight's imminent release, there are some things we would all like to see happen in the last installment of the Arkham trilogy. Ever since Arkham Asylum, Rocksteady broke the barrier between superheroes and video games and made the perfect balance among the two. Not only did Rocksteady find a way to make a supehero game fun, but they also added some great new features that other developers could learn from. Heck! Shadow of Mordor, Mad Max, and the new Assassin's Creed game, Syndicate, all use Batman's fighting technique, lets see if Rocksteady could bring something new and refreshing to the table this time around as they wrap up the Arkham series. Here’s the top 5 things we expect to see in Arkham Knight.

5. Not overusing the Batmobile

The Batmobile may be the most iconic vehicle in history and we will finally be able to use it. Nolan’s spin on the Batmobile is present in Rocksteady’s interpretation, the tumbler styled Batmobile looks better than ever and is playable for the first time in the Arkham series. The car will be a pinnacle point in Arkham Knight as director of the game, Sefton Hill, stated the Arkham Knight will be 5 times larger than its predecessor, Arkham City. The Batmobile will create new pursuit scenes and will even be used to solve puzzles, says Sefton Hill. The only fear I have is that they don’t overplay the car, they need to find the balance between the Bat and his Batmobile to keep it fun and not feel too forced.

4. Possible Superman appearance

This is a far stretch, but a Superman cameo would be incredible. Stick with me now, there is multiple sources that point to a possible Superman appearance, which maybe could hint at their next series? Some clues that inquisitr.com found seem pretty believable. The first one would be that  according to the Arkham Knights IMDB page, the legendary voice actor George Newbern was casted into the game. George Newbern played Superman in familiar animated series like Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, and guess who played Batman? Yes Kevin Conroy. These two have a chemistry playing Batman and Superman and it would make perfect sense to cast Newbern as Superman. IMDB quickly removed the casting as it was probably a mistake, but nonetheless there was sighting of Newbern in Arkham Knight which can only lead to one thing, a Superman cameo.

If that doesn’t make you believe we might see a Superman cameo, maybe this next one will. A sharp eyed fan was breaking down the trailer and spotted something very peculiar, a LexCorp sign on a building in the distance. LexCorp, run by the infamous villain Lex Luthor, is best known for fighting against Superman. Now a question pops up, what is a Superman villain doing in a Batman game? Rocksteady didn’t confirm anything about a crossover between Batman and Superman, but could this be their way of hinting at a Superman franchise in the works? I would say if any studio is qualified to work on a Superman game it would have to be Rocksteady, they proved themselves with Batman. If there was any time to make a Superman game or in evidently a Justice League game, it would be right now. With the upcoming Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice releasing next year, it would make perfect sense to have this game running alongside the movies. What do you think? Does this give enough evidence that a Superman cameo could happen or am I way too optimistic?

3. Reintroduce some old villains

Batman has a slew of enemies ranging from the mainstream ones like The Joker to the minor league villains like The Mad Hatter. All these villains are important to Batman lore and I hope to see the most villains we possibly can in a Batman game yet. The story as we know it is that the Scarecrow is teaming up with Two face, Penguin, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and The Riddler to finally end the Dark Knight. These are all main villains we already knew that were going to be in the game, hopefully Rocksteady will add side objectives to complete, like its predecessors which would have you searching for clues to find where Deadshot is hiding or going through Mad Hatters crazy world. Besides the main story, these little enemies Batman fights lead to memorable and iconic moments for each individual player, something Rocksteady has been good at this far in the series.

2. To continue the Batman series in some capacity

Batman Arkham Knight is sadly the finale within the Arkham series. The closure of Batman's story should be handled very carefully, the Arkham series invokes some of the best gameplay out there intertwining with great story elements. If Rocksteady did anything while working on the Arkham series, it was telling a fascinating story that kept us both engaged and fulfilled all the way through. Surely Rocksteady won’t just abandon the Batman. They created a masterpiece. And while this is the end of the Arkham trilogy, it doesn't mean it's the end of Batman games from Rocksteady.

1. Who the Arkham Knight is

This is by far the most anticipated aspect of the game, who the Arkham Knight is? Is he someone from previous Batman lore? I am personally scarred from Batman Arkham Origins, the whole game was teased that Black Mask was the main villain, just to have the rug pulled out from under us, the Joker came and surprised us all. Sefton Hill and the whole Rocksteady team stated that the Arkham Knight is entirely a new character created among Rocksteady and DC comics, ensuring us that this isn’t just another surprise attack with the Joker again. SPOILERS! Another tricky point that Rocksteady has to get across is dealing with the Joker's death from Arkham City. Joker is the mastermind, basically the face of all villains, having him out of a BATMAN game will be a great blow to fans. Hopefully Arkham Knight can live up to the Joker's stature.

These are some of the things I would like to see happen in Batman Arkham Knight. Let me know in the comments below on what your top 5 Batman hopes are or if you agree with any of mine.

Arkham Knight is set to release tomorrow, June 23rd, 2015 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
