As evident by July’s list of Xbox One games, summer is a slow time for new releases. So what better time to catch up on that backlog of games? Sure you can be adventurous and travel the world, but sometimes you just need some time to yourself, and what better way to tackle that backlog of great games.
Below are five Xbox One games I recommend playing during this summer drought.
Titanfall is the equivalent to a summer blockbuster movie. Lots of multiplayer action, big ass Titans, and a ton of mindless fun. Story? Plot? Nah, don’t need it. The “campaign” — if you can even call it that — is limited, but you’ll get hours and hours of multiplayer fun to hold you over this summer.
One of the Xbox One’s better launch titles, Dead Rising 3 is set in a post-apocalyptic, open-world overrun by hordes of zombies. Not only will you have fun slaying the zombie masses, but you can do so in style as Dead Rising 3 boasts a wide array of customization options for both your character and the weapons in the game. What’s more, Capcom also recently released an expansion for it, the Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix. Unfortunately, we can’t recommend that.
If you’re a fan of fighting games, then I highly recommend Killer Instinct. This next-gen iteration of the legendary fighting game franchise boasts over-the-top action, a wild cast of fighters, and C-C-C-COMBO BREAKERS! Even better, it’s free. Or rather, it’s the “world’s most generous demo.” You can download Killer Instinct for free on Xbox One, but only one character at a time unlocked. You can pay to unlock additional characters individually or as part of bundle.
Forza Motorsport 5 is the game for not just racing fans, but car lovers. At launch, Forza 5 boasted about 200 cars and 14 different locations. Now, with all of the DLC that has been released since then, that number has been dramatically increased. I’m not exactly the biggest racing-game expert, but I know enough to say Forza 5 is one of the best racing games available right now.
Kinect Sports Rivals is probably one of the better games available to use with the Kinect. After the Kinect scans your likeness (not as creepy as it sounds), it puts you in the game. From there, you can compete in a variety of sporting events including Wake Racing, Climbing, Tennis, Bowling, Soccer, and Target Shooting. If you’re looking for a fun way to be active this summer, Kinect Sports Rivals offers just that.
