Resident Evil (2002)
Arguably the best video game to movie remake to date; Resident has spawned five movies and despite the game franchise being flawed, a sixth film is slated for a 2016 release. Word around the umbrella corporation offices is this only marks the end of Alice’s adventure. Leaving the opportunity for things to become very interesting; whether Paul W. S. Anderson, writer and the director of the last 3, decides to create a whole new saga or revamp the original. Either way it would be cool to see Chris Pratt as Chris Redfield kicking umbrella ass all while stopping the T-Virus; unlike Milla Jovovich’s rough persona, Alice. It’d be a breathe of fresh air to the Resident Evil franchise to have a lead that audience goers can actually attach themselves to.
Shrek (2001)
Its only a matter of time until Dreamworks enlists Chris Pratt to lead their next animated hit; so why not Shrek. Its been about five years since we’ve last seen the always grumpy Ogre and his Donkey on the big screen and since rumors have surfaced that there’s a Shrek 5 in the works, Dreamworks has to bring their A game if they want to get us interested again. Luckily, I can’t think of any other sudden A-listers that have a comedic background (granted, I’m not thinking too hard). Just fathom the potential banter between Andy Dwyer and Donkey (Eddie Murphy) or even Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas). Either way, Dreamworks needs to make a move before Pixar gets to him first.
Any M. Night Shamalan movie
So, I know this isn’t exactly a franchise but, imagine an M Night Shamalan movie that isn’t a complete disappointment. Chris Pratt is so interesting I’m sure he’d motivate Night to not sway from the bigger picture. And the only twist this time will be that the movie is actually good!
The Terminator (1984)
Now this franchise is in a realm that even Chris Pratt looks to the future for help. Though Terminator Genesis was okay, it was too little too late to justify that many sequels. However the wittiness of Pratt’s delivery accompanied with his new Marvel motivated physique, it wouldn’t be too far fetched to see him help the resistance against Skynet. With the amount of time traveling going on, I’m sure Pratt can be penciled in as another Connor sibling from an alternate universe or something. Either way, if Terminator was to make another sequel it wouldn’t hurt to add a cinematic Ace to the deck.
Alien (1979)
It has been rumored that Aliens may be getting the Hollywood Makeover after Prometheus 2. Instead of just whipping something together, they should stay true to the franchise and keep the dark, suspenseful elements that made the 1979 original a classic. Seeing how the film is a Horror Sci –Fi, Chris Pratt isn’t too far off from the perfect star, considering the genres of film he has already proven himself in; Guardians of the Galaxy being Sci-Fi and Jurassic World is suspense/action. In a perfect world, this reboot starring Chris Pratt would be written by James Cameron and directed by Ridley Scott, with a subtle Sigourney Weaver cameo.
Transformers (2007)
Yet another film franchise that stole our hearts with its premiere; only to take advantage of our love through some less than perfect sequels. If anyone could pull off Optimus’ human sidekick it would be Chris Pratt. Not only is he witty but, he has proven that he can kick some serious ass while things explode around him. Unlike the others, this sequel should take all the elements of our childhood nostalgia and make a film that doesn’t completely disappoint. Its time to make giant talking robots in disguise cool again; by having Chris Pratt co-starring with Optimus Prime, there is a chance that it could work.
Die Hard (1988)
In this era where movie “revamps” reign supreme, it is only a matter of time until the Die Hard series faces Hollywood’s scalpel. This film franchise has seen its fair share of sequels and has all of the elements Chris Pratt has already proven himself to be successful in- over the top action combined with comical elements. It really is not too far fetched to believe Lucy Gennaro McClane had a son that looks up to his grandpa and took over the McClane mantle? Better yet, Chris could even team up with Bruce Willis. Either way, this one seems almost too easy for Chris Pratt to take over. Granted it is almost as if Chris Pratt was meant to say “Yippie Ki Yay Mother…”
When it comes to Hollywood, Chris Pratt may just have the Midas touch, turning any film into an instant blockbuster. Ever since his lead role in 2014’s Guardian of Galaxy, the lackadaisically aloof Andy Dwyer (Parks and Rec) has transformed into Hollywood’s golden child; with a winning streak even April Ludgate couldn’t hate. However, it does cause one to wonder — if Chris Pratt can do no wrong, is it possible that he could revive our favorite franchises before their memory fades into a joke.
Here’s a list of movies and how his quirky charm could save them.
Pirates of the Caribbean (2003)
If someone told me that a movie based on a Disney theme park ride would not only be a box office success, but also go on to spawn several sequels, I would call you mad, but it did just that. Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, has whimsically sailed us through four films. Now that there are talks of a fifth movie, one can only hope that it will be a breathe of fresh air, after the fourth film- as opposed to one final gasp of nostalgia. Just think of how exciting it would be if Disney were to introduce Chris Pratt as Jack Sparrow’s long lost brother. As crazy as it may sound, Chris Pratt’s quirky upbeat personality could provide an interesting enough dynamic to an already odd Jack Sparrow. It’s just the kind of wrench studios are known for throwing into their sequels, but if it’s Chris Pratt it can’t be all that bad.
