An analyst from IDC claims Sony will not drop the PSP’s price below its manufacturing cost nor are they trying to beat the DS.
PSP prices have been dropping world wide (except Australia) but it has been argued that the numbers are not very significant. While it has also been argued that the price drop is Sony’s attempt to catch up to the DS, at least one analyst disagrees.
“I don’t think Sony will ‘beat’ the DS, nor do I think that they aspire to do so,” IDC’s analyst Billy Pidgeon said. “Games for the two devices are different, and the gaming experience is quite different. I think that the only people who care about the DS-PSP sales battle are the media.”
Units sold for the DS and PSP are currently estimated at 40 million and 20 million respectively.
