Approximately 160 SCEE Layoffs Expected

A little over a week ago, we reported that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) was planning on cutting around 10% of their current employees as a result of “a period of transition where some of the fundamentals of our business are changing,” according to SCEE Director of Corporate Communications Nick Sharples. He continued, “The management of the company has concluded that we need to change our structure, streamline and strengthen our business operations – and that our cost base needs to be significantly reduced.”

The game developers blog Inner Bits has received new information concerning the imminent layoffs. Approximately 160 staff members total are expected to be cut from Sony Cambridge, Sony London, and Sony Liverpool. Cambridge will see around 20 layoffs, while both the London and Liverpool studios are expected to lose 50 staff members each. SCEE has declined to make any statement at this time.
