Best Games of 2015: Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

After Assassin's Creed Unity, and its buggy released, coupled with horrible performance issues, it's easy to see why fans would be skeptical of the next core entry in the franchise. And even though Unity is finally a much better state nowadays, the damage had already been done. Thankfully, Assassin's Creed Syndicate ended up being a rather fantastic return to form.

Sure, you were still doing the same typical assassin stuff and in typical Ubisot fashion, yet somehow it all felt fresh. Now, players could control one of two charaters, Jacob or Evie Frye, at will, though specific missions were tied to each character.

London itself was very fun to explore, with lots of verticality once again, much like Paris. Now, players also had the new grappling hook at their disposal which not only made climbing a breeze, but also connecting two far buildings together, and easily traversing from one to another. However, the climbing system got a nice overhaul too. Traversing up and down felt very smooth, and the just sort of "knew" where you wanted to go.

The upgrade system was also implemented fairly well. As you progressed, you would gain a skill point per 1000XP, and spending enough skill points would award you a level. Certain areas were suited better for higher levels, however, skilled players could test their luck and try their hand at liberating those areas regardless.

Gone was the needless multiplayer, or the disgusting chests that would only open with an online connection, and instead, we have a single-player focused game that delivered a great story, great characters, and some really fun and interesting new gameplay mechanics.
