Best Games of 2015: Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series

Technically, the first episode of Telltale’s Game of Thrones series released all the way back in December 2014. But seeing as how it took the entire 2015 to release the five remaining episodes, we’re counting it towards 2015.

Telltale’s Game of Thrones features the studio’s signature point-and-click gameplay with an emphasis on player choice. Your decisions matter and help shape the narrative of Telltale’s episodic adventure.

Although based on HBO’s award-winning television drama, Telltale’s Game of Thrones acts as sort of a spin off, telling the story of House Forrester and its role during the events of The War of the Five Kings. Throughout the story, you’ll play multiple key members of House Forrester, all who find themselves in different, precarious situations. Though separated, the members of House Forrester are all united with the common goal to see their house survive. Of course, this is Game of Thrones we’re talking about, and Telltale Games stays true to the brutal nature of the show. Tough decisions and heart-breaking losses were not lost in the book-to-television-to-game adaptation.

What’s neat about Telltale’s Game of Thrones is that you meet familiar characters as seen on HBO’s show, but in situations not necessarily seen on television. It offers more of a behind-the-scenes type feel, taking a ‘what was happening with these characters when they weren’t on-screen’ approach. It’s neat to see how these characters react to situations we haven’t already seen on television, and in particular how it relates to House Forrester.

From the difficult decisions you’ll be forced to make to the brutal nature of the world around you, Game of Thrones is an adaption fans are sure to love.
