Best Games of 2015: Transformers Devastation

PlatinumGames have made some impressively, over-the-top games, such as Vanquish, two Bayonettas, Wonderful 101, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Anarchy Reigns. While they're all quite different games, they all share the same flash and flair. Everything is over-the-top in every way, whether it's exaggerated movements, elaborate set pieces, or simply mechanically deep combat that's easy to pick up, yet tough to master.

Their first foray into Licensed territory came with The Legend of Korra. While not a bad game by any means, it was apparent that this wasn't meant to be a large Platinum production, but rather a companion piece to the show, and as a result, the reactions were mixed. When Transformers Devastation was announced, also being produced by Platinum, this raised some red flags. Thankfully, they were all for nothing, as Devastation ended up being everything we love about PlatinumGames' titles.

Players would assume the role of a few different Autobots, as they took on the Decepticons and Insecticons. Combat was once again easy to pick up, but had nuances that made it challenging, if explored thoroughly. Perfectly timed dodges activated the now-Platinum-staple, Witch Time, which slows down time around you and lets you unleash some quick combos.

There was also a simple loot system which was a nice surprise, especially for players who always hunt for the best gear, and added some great replay value to the game. Which happened to be pretty necessary, since Devastation was a rather short game. Despite its length though, it was a fantastic experience from start to finish.
