Capcom Bringing PSP Games to PSN (Eventually)

Ok, so I’ve been living under a rock where some matters concerning the PS3 are concerned, what with not owning one and all. So PSP games on PSN? Well, knock me over with a feather, I had no clue. But from what I’ve been told, that’s been chiefly SCEA stuff, with a splash of a subsidiary here, maybe there.

But, a light shines on the horizon, as it seems Capcom has confirmed that they may yet soon join those two, giving a second chance at life to games harder to find for Sony’s portable; one might expect these to include those which came out too early in the system’s lifespan, i.e. before anyone actually owned the damn thing (and by the time they did, too late for Capcom).

In a Capcom*Unity post about PS1 games arriving on the PlayStation Network, Capcom Corporate Officer/Vice-President of Strategic Planning & Business Development Christian Svensson says “The first titles you see appearing from us will be some of our better PSP titles that are difficult to find at retail. We’ll speak to Sony in more detail regarding PS1 titles we’ll get to after we’ve gotten a few or our more recent PSP titles up and available.”

Of course, that’s all that’s known, but it may be the sign which a number of people I know have been hoping for. Mega Man Powered Up and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X were two excellent games that came out early in the PSP’s life, but sales were… lacking. Lacking enough that plans for sequels would seem to have been scrapped, leading fans to curse the heavens as to why they would release these two games on a system no one (yet) owned, and then get no second chance.

But now, that second chance may yet come. And with a little hope and a lot of luck, maybe Capcom of Japan will look at continuing these series in a different format from that which they originated…
