Well, after stops, starts, delays, 20 years, and a promise to deliver the game within the first six months of 2009, the sequel to the NES classic Bionic Commando finally has an official (for real) release date. On May 19, 2009, you will be able to jump into the shoes of a disparaged Nathan Spencer, swinging from building to building – up, down, and every way in between. And not only that, but the voice of said Bionic Commando is Mike Patton of Faith No More. Nothing says “Epic” like a FNM and Bionic Commando team-up.
Bionic Commando will also ship with what will hopefully prove to be an impressive – and different – online multiplayer mode utilizing the game’s unique swing system to chase your opponents down. I know there’s lots of hardcore online gamers here, but really, how many more Capture the Flag games can you play? Regardless of a particular game’s selling points, how long can Capture the Flag be “re-invented”? At least swinging around like monkeys adds some amount of excitement.
And just in case you are some sort of Bionic Commando cosplayer, Gamestop is currently giving away free BC patches, both old and new school, to people that pre-order the game. So complete that fake bionic arm, spin those old Faith No More records, and get ready for action.
