Carmine’s Fate Is Sealed

A couple weeks ago we brought you an update on the third and final Carmine brother and the fact that his future would be decided directly by Gears of War 3 fans. Now his fate has been sealed, as Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson have announced that the voting window has closed. What’s going to happen to Carmine? Watch the above video to learn all there is to know for now.

So unfortunately the boys didn’t tell us Carmine’s fate, but can you blame them? It would be bad marketing to give up such a juicy nugget of info before the game launches, and it would also kill some of the fun of finding out for yourself when the game reaches the pivotal moment where Carmine’s life hangs in the balance. Only then shall you which side purchased the most t-shirts. Poor guy, when you think about it it’s pretty rough to have the rest of your life determined by what is essentially one of those magazine subscription drives we all went through as school fundraisers. Oh well, people have lived and died for less.

The good news is that the campaign has been a rousing success, with Epic donating $150,000 to Child’s Play on behalf of all the gamers who bought shirts. To all those who contributed, thanks for being generous, regardless of whether you decided to be a wimpy pansy or a murderous psychopath when you chose your side in this fight. Hopefully once the game launches Epic will clue us in on the exact vote breakdown so we can see just how close it was and if the voting came down to the wire.

Mark your calendars, the date when we all learn what going to happen to Carmine once and for all is April 5, 2011.
