There have been plenty of attempts to translate the RTS genre for console audiences, but not until this year’s The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II could any of them truly be considered a success. Next year, Electronic Arts is hoping to further build on that success by bringing Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars to the Xbox 360.
“The Command & Conquer series finally makes its return to the console after seven years,” said Mike Verdu, Executive Producer at EALA. “C&C 3 will help expand the RTS genre on the Xbox 360, building off of the foundation laid by the development of The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II. EA is evolving the console controls so that strategy gaming plays and feels native to the platform.”
C&C 3 will let players choose a side in the epic struggle between the Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of Nod, and help decide the fate of a world quickly dying out at the hands of a Tiberium infection in the year 2047. The game will also support multiplayer gameplay over Xbox Live, and EA promises to extend its replay value with plenty of downloadable content following the game’s 2007 release.
AMN will bring you further information on Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars as it becomes available, so stay tuned.
