Cooking Mama, the DS game that took Japan by storm… kinda, is now hopping the pond and being localized by Majesco for North America.
Cooking Mama puts you in place of a Mama, and you… cook. While the premise is simple, many gamers still get a surprising amount of pleasure chopping things up and making sure that they don’t get burned on the DS.
It’s hard to tell what the target audience for this game actually is, especially in the US, where most gamers tend to be a bit more cynical regarding games that center around unusually effeminate activities like cooking or washing Barbie’s ponies. It’ll probably appeal the most to a younger youth female audience, although you might just see a bearded man playing this in the plane seat next to you one day.
Majesco is planning to showcase an English build of Cooking Mama at this year’s E3.
AMN will keep you updated on any more Cooking Mama details. (Like if they suddenly decide to add machine guns in the localized version.)
