Mircosoft and Ruffian Games’ new entry in the Crackdown series has a demo on Xbox Live that is downloadable now. The demo will highlight certain aspects of the game like collecting orbs, the single player campaign, and 4-player co-op. The game should give those who are new to Crackdown a quick idea of what it is all about, thanks to the sped up leveling in the demo.
Kombo has had some hands-on with Crackdown 2, and now it is everybody’s turn. Will Ruffian be able to recapture the magic of the first game, or are they feebly remaking the same game with co-op.
Potentially more exciting than the demo itself is one of its features. Any Achievement that players obtain from spending time with the trial will be retained when/if they purchase the final version.
Basically, if a player earns an Achievement it will be sitting dormant in the background waiting for the final retail disc to be inserted into the console. At that point the player will receive the Achievement and the points for whatever he did in the demo.
Hopefully this is a system that all other games will adopt. It probably isn’t as simple as some games won’t have finalized Achievements by the time the publisher pushes out a demo for the game. Still, it is something we as gamers appreciate.
