Stainless Games, a UK based independent game developer has announced that their first Xbox Live Arcade title, Crystal Quest is complete, and is now available for download on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
Developed initially in the late eighties, Crystal Quest was the first game to utilize color technology on the day’s Apple computers. The Xbox Live Arcade title retains the simple, but effective gameplay structure of the original game, as it requires users to guide a sphere through rectangular playing fields. Players collect crystals throughout the given level and are forced to shoot down opposing enemy vehicles. Once all the applicable crystals are collected, a new more difficult area becomes open.
Ross Erickson, Xbox Live Arcade Games Portfolio Manager for Microsoft has said “Crystal Quest will be immediately recognizable to anybody who’s played the classic that began on the Mac and it has that same addictive quality that the original had. But now, you get the best of both worlds – old school classic, proven gameplay with next generation Xbox 360-quality graphics in high-definition.”
Stainless Games, the company responsible for bringing the classic PC title to life again has promised that frequent Content Packages will be made available for download via the same Marketplace service. For a nominal fee, gamers will be given the opportunity to fully customize a graphical style and sound effects of their choosing.
Crystal Quest is available now via Microsoft’s Xbox Live Marketplace for a price of 400 points. We’ll have a review of this newly released Arcade title shortly. Stay tuned.
