Disney Infinity’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey impressions: He’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me

The face of Disney has made his way into Disney Infinity. Donning the blue Sorcerer's Hat, which is the icon of Disney's Hollywood Studios – and also seen in Fantasia and the source of Donald's problems in Mickey's PhilharMagic – Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey brings even more magic to Disney Infinity.                          

My favorite park-closing show in all of Disney World is Fantasmic, mainly because of the feels when Mickey is standing atop the giant rock shooting fireworks, disappears, and reappears at the base of the rock, saying “Some imagination, huh?” The look on my son's tired face was filled with wonderment. To see that face recreated when I handed him the newest addition to Disney Infinity was priceless.

Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey brings something that Disney Infinity was sorely missing – a classic, iconic character. Don’t get me wrong, the other characters they have are great; I love them all. But Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey brings magic… seriously. Mickey’s attack is quick-firing Magic Bursts, shooting what looks like fireworks out of his gloved hands, with a couple of different animations. His really cool attack is when he attacks mid-jump; magic brooms come out with a splash of water.

Speaking of animations, Mickey’s run, jump and walk are all what you’d expect to see. Avalanche Software did a great job bringing this character to life. Credits for that also need to go to Bret Iwan, who’s been voicing Mickey Mouse since 2009 after the death of Wayne Allwine – the voice of Mickey Mouse from 1977 until his death. Also, like all of the other toys that they’ve made for the game, the figure for Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey is awesome.

Also like the other figures, Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey comes with his own Toy Box adventure, titled “Mickey’s Magical Escape.” It’s a side-scrolling platformer where you race against the clock to find an exit and get to the end. In your way is a series of jumps, enemies, and obstacles. If you can beat it in three minutes or less then you get the gold medal.

Maybe it’s due to the fact that my kids love Disney, and watching my son play Disney Infinity with Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey brings up some of my most memorable times in Disney World, but this figure truly is magical. The figures continue to improve with every new release. So if you’re a Disney Infinity fan, Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey is must-purchase.
