Released in 2009, Dissidia: Final Fantasy proved two things – one, the PSP is still a capable platform, and two, there is more to gaming’s biggest RPG series than just RPGs. The combination of the series’ best heroes and villains doing battle made for the ultimate in fanboy spazzing, and the title’s success proved there’s still some life in Sony’s handheld.
Now, the latest issue of Jump Magazine has confirmed that another Dissidia is in the works, including more of the series’ biggest heroes. And it apparently shows that Square Enix has a problem with counting.
The game is entitled Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy, “Duodecim” being Latin for 12. Of course, I would presume considering that the main series has gone on for 14 installments so far, the company simply hasn’t forgotten what comes next after “1”, but is more of a case of throwing in weird words to be unique…y’know, like “Dissidia” (what the hell does that word mean, anyway?)
As one can likely infer from the above scan, Duodecim will include two newcomers. First up is Lightning, the main character from the most recent thirteenth installment of the series. More surprising, however, is Kain, a very popular character from Final Fantasy IV. However, he’s not be the main character in the series, which gets away from the main hero/main villain pattern of the original Dissidia.
Does this mean that other Final Fantasy favorites will be included? Speculate below, and stand by for more coverage at the Tokyo Game Show next week.
