Launching last thursday in Australia, the Nintendo DS is said to have been the biggest ever in the market’s history. According to Rose Lappin, marketing director for Nintendo of Australia, “The retail and consumer feedback from Thursday’s Nintendo DS launch has been astounding.” Company officials are “eagerly awaiting the official market sales figures this week to fully solidify our place in the Australian marketplace as the most successful current hardware launch ever.”
Official sales numbers of the DS won’t be available until Wednesday, however retailers have already reported the strong sales of the system. From their initial feedback, it appears that the DS’ arrival in the outback is nothing short of astonishing.
Sales of the portable system will also see a rise as the handheld debuts in Europe on March 11th. At the retail price of 149 euros, the DS is expected to see yet another big increase in sales. The launch of the portable in Europe will go uncontested by Sony, whom has indefinitely delayed the PSP’s arrival on the European front. Check back wednesday for a full report on how the DS faired down under, as well as an examination of how the DS is faring throughout the globe in it’s initial months. Current sales of the system have currently reached the 2.8 million mark and are sure to increase as the product reaches two additional markets. i want this
