Nintendo of Europe has recently declared that the popular pet simulation title, Nintendogs has sold over one million copies. Since it’s release on October 7th, the title has been a considerable hit in the region, as retailers in the area have been unable to keep the title in stock.
The innovative simulation game allows for users to take care of a virtual puppy ranging from several breeds of dogs. The company has been praised throughout the world for their handheld title, and the game has attracted a wide audience of “non gamers” to the gaming industry.
With Nintendogs such a hit in Europe, sales of the Nintendo DS have risen dramatically since the game launched last month. Over two million systems have been sold in the region, with sales continuing to surge. In the previous three weeks, over one hundred thousand handhelds have been sold each week.
The company expects sales to further escalate as the anticipated title, Mario Kart DS was released late last week. To help gamers’ experience the system, Nintendo of Europe is bundling the game with the DS at a price of £99 when the system itself retails for £89.
The debut of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in the region is set to be both free and accessible for European gamers. Nintendo of Europe has launched a full scale promotional plan for the service and has established numerous free Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the continent. In the United Kingdom alone, over 7,000 Wi-Fi locations have been implemented for DS users to utilize.
The Advanced Media Network will continue to follow the status of the Nintendo DS in Europe, as well as throughout the world. Stay tuned.
