Sure, the world reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will take place tomorrow, April 26, but enough teasers for the game have been released that give us some pretty solid foundation as to what we can expect. Between all the teasers and the recent live-action trailer, we've learned quite a bit about Black Ops 3 ahead of its grand unveiling.
Below is everything we know about Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, including a few things we think are pretty certain we know.
It definitely takes place in the future
If the description pulled from the game’s website didn’t already convince you, then the live-action trailer sealed the deal. We know Black Ops 3 will take you to a “dark, twisted future where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the technology we created to stay ahead, in a world where cutting-edge military robotics define warfare.”
The new trailer gave us a glimpse into that future. “In the next 50 years, technological advancements will lead us into a world where only those who risk going too far, will find out how far we can actually go,” Activision teased.
Coalescence Corporation sounds like the bad guy
If there’s anything I’ve learned in life, it’s that giant corporations are usually bad. In Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, that company appears to be Coalescence Corporation, the bionic firm mentioned quite a few times in the trailer. They seem to be the ones responsible for the genetic modification, DNA upgrades, and organ replacements going on. They’ve even go so far as to create the first networked brain-to-brain connection.
That same corporation is shown later on in the trailer with the mention of a massive blast along with worldwide protests against genetic modification. People appear upset about “scientists playing God.”
The U.S. Government doesn’t sound too good either
If there’s a second thing I’ve learned in life, it’s to not trust government. It appears politicians’ pockets are lined with Coalescence Corporation’s money — perhaps using the company to genetically modify our soldiers. Not for one second am I believing the line: “The notion that the United States sponsors some sort of super soldier program is not just untrue, it’s patently absurd.” Sure, buddy.
It can also be speculated, based on the corporation’s creation of brain-to-brain networking, along with a “Simulated Cognitive Compatibility Assessment” discovered on a private website, that the government might have the capability to actually control its soldiers — and I’m not just talking manipulatively. I’m talking, legit controlling the thoughts and actions.
Zombies are returning
Aside from the obvious clue that Treyarch is behind the wheel on this one, the trailer was rife with clues of the return of a Zombies mode. Not only was it mentioned in the game’s description, but Element 115 was mentioned quite a few times in the trailer. Of course, Element 115 plays a role in the Zombies backstory as it was used by the Nazis to create zombies by reanimating dead cells. I'm also pretty sure Coalescence Corporation and all its neurological work are the ones responsible for bringing back zombies.
Exoskeletons are (probably) returning
While we’ll have to wait for the gameplay reveal for this one, it’s basically a sure thing that some form of Advanced Warfare’s Exoskeleton abilities are returning in Black Ops 3. Not only does the futuristic setting and all of this genetic modification lend itself perfectly to some sort of special abilities, but the powerful suits were even mentioned a few times in the Simulated Cognitive Compatibility Assessment.

“The only way not to feel safe with those on the roof is to make too much eye contact with the encampments of exoskeleton’ed strike teams at the intersection closest to the building. They look terrifyingly irritated.”
-
“For a company that builds humanoid combat robots and revolutionized battlefields with exoskeletons, our department’s conference room has a fitting name.”
The worldwide debut for Call of Duty: Black Ops will take place tomorrow, April 26. We'll be sure to post our thoughts once it's unveiled.
