Everything we know about Star Wars Battlefront so far

Earlier this week, Electronic Arts lifted the curtain on Star Wars Battlefront, finally giving us a look at official in-game footage and revealing a bunch of details about the highly anticipated shooter. There’s been a ton of new info and unless you’ve been following very closely all weekend, there’s a chance you might’ve missed something. So we’ve gone ahead and compiled a list of everything we know about Star Wars Battlefront up to now.

Release Date

Star Wars Battlefront will release on November 17, 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. (November 19 in Europe).

(Mostly) set amid the conflicts of the original trilogy

Although Star Wars Battlefront’s launch coincides with the release of the new film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the game will mostly be inspired by the events in the original film trilogy. That means Rebel Alliance versus Galactic Empire.

Free DLC inspired by The Force Awakens

Of course, Electronic Arts isn’t completely ignoring the new film. Free DLC for the game will send players to the desert planet of Jakku to take part in the “Battle of Jakku.” The DLC will offer players two maps on Jakku and will be completely free; however, pre-ordering gets you access to the maps a week in advance of its worldwide release. You can find more details here.

There’s been no mention of the prequel trilogy. Maybe DLC?

First-person view with optional third-person perspective

As some could have predicted, Battlefront will be first-person. However, DICE has included an optional third-person perspective for fans who prefer the series’ original view. Switching between the two views is as simple as pressing a button.

Locations

Many familiar planets will serve as locations to battle on in Star Wars Battlefront. So far, confirmed planets include Endor, Hoth, Tatooine, and the previously unexplored planet, Sullust, which was briefly mentioned in 1983’s Return of the Jedi.

Of course, the newly revealed desert planet Jakku will also have two maps as free DLC.

Characters

Playable characters will include troops from the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire, but you’ll also see a few of the series’ more memorable and iconic characters. So far, only Darth Vader and Boba Fett have been revealed.

You’ll have the option to play as male and female characters, although character customization will stay true to the Star Wars universe. In other words, don’t expect to see any pink Darth Vaders.

Vehicles and Ships

A number of vehicles and ships have been confirmed for the game, including TIE Fighters, X-wings, snow speeders, speeder bikes and even the Millennium Falcon. AT-ATs and AT-STs will also be included.

No Space Battles

Despite the inclusion of TIE Fighters and X-wings, Star Wars Battlefront will not feature space battles. So any dogfights done in space ships will be within the atmosphere.
