It's not a mod, it's the highly controversial surprise cucumber (featuring cats!)
The tedious nature of Fallout 4 begins before the story even picks up with character creation. You can alter your character's upper eyelid, lower lid, cheek, chin, bottom lip, upper lip, ears, eyebrows, nose (in three different places!) and more.
It's easy to become overwhelmed and click 'Accept' without being truly happy with your character, awesome pre-made character faces would totally work around this. Modders have done this on PC already, creating a Geralt of Rivia face, Vin Diesel, Rick Grimes from the Walking Dead, The Witcher's Ciri, and other more general faces.
Sure, it might be a mod inspired by laziness… But I really don't care.
I spent over two hours in the first five hours of my game trying to make my settlement beautiful, as it turns out, I'm not good at it. Yeah, bottom line, I suck at making my settlement look cool. Other people, however, are really, really good at it.
Halo 5 has Forge that shares user created content, I suggest Bethesda make their own mod for Fallout 4 that shares user created settlements for players to download. Until then, we can use mods like the 'High Security Sanctuary' that allows players to load up a fully built settlement – without going through the effort of building one yourself.
Of course, that mod relies on a cheat/mod that removes any building limits…. but I'm sure there's a way around it.
Planning on putting tons of hours into Fallout 4, while only listening to the Diamond City Radio? You'll eventually get tired of the tracks and move on, it's inevitable… Unless we add more music to the game. There's already a mod out there that adds 37 thematically appropriate tunes to the Diamond Radio Station, but I say "why stop there"?
It would be great to songs from previous Fallout games (some are already included in Fallout 4, but not all) or go off-the-wall and include radio stations from other games, like GTA V. There might be some copyright issues with music, but hey, dreams are dreams.
If you've been playing Fallout 4, you have probably encountered the highly detailed and easy-to-use inventory system… It's great, you really get to visualize the items you have. I'm being sarcastic, inventory management isn't the easiest with any RPG, but in Fallout 4 it's a bit harder – especially because you need to grab every toaster you see.
Building up the sanctuary doesn't help either, you need to scrap those random items to create basic resources!
It's easy to store all your junk in your Settlement's workshop (they can hold an infinite amount of junk, unlike you), but sometimes you really need to see what you've got to manage it best while out in the wasteland. I propose creating a mod that works like the 'Better Item Sorting' mod, but also shows you your items in a bigger list format than just the Pip-Boy.
Sure, a German Shepherd is a great dog and is often used in real-world battle situations, but an option for another breed or coloring would be great. Before you say, "Tatiana, another breed simply isn't realistic," in World War I they used German Shepherds, Airedale Terriers, Boxers, Bulldogs, sheepdogs, and various retrievers — so another breed could work.
Plus, how realistic is it to find a healthy dog in a nuclear wasteland that won't attack you when you come across it?
At the moment you can find various mods that will change Dogmeat's colors and other's that make him a different breed in General, like a Raider Dog. It would be great to enhance our furry companion with different colors and breeds – why not make a Chihuahua version of Dogmeat? It would be great seeing the little guy go against a Deathclaw.
Even if you're not a fan of modding a game on your first playthrough, this might be a mod that you make an exception for. The 'Full Dialogue Mod' currently exists on PC and it totally needs to exist on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The mod removes the general one or two word dialogue options and replaces them with the full line of text instead of the vague options. It's curious that Bethesda opted for the vague blurbs, like 'Sarcasm' instead of the full text – they obviously fit on the screen…
Just over a week ago Fallout 4 made its official release, and in that small amount of time we have already seen a number of modifications for the game pop-up on PC. There's a nudity mod, a Red Sox mod (that left the MLB very unhappy), graphics enhancement mods, and more. The abundance of available modifications is no surprise, Fallout 4 uses the same engine as Skyrim and Skyrim's modding community was (and still is) extremely active.
Modding, for the most part, has been limited to PC players, but this will be changing next year when Bethesda releases their Creation Kit on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. This Creation Kit (which is planned to hit the Xbox One first) will allow console players to get in on PC modifications, within Bethesda's limitations. Unfortunately, it looks like console players won't be able to get in on the graphic enhancement mods, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other mods that console can get in on.
There are some mods that need to come to the Xbox One and PS4, some of them are to make life in the Wasteland easier and others are the result of inherent laziness. Over the following pages you'll find all of the mods that I think are necessary for consoles – they are in no particular order, they just need to happen (you hear that modders? Make it happen!).
Also, the mods I chose currently exist (to some extent) on the PC – I'll link to the PC mod as we go on our mod journey.
