Back in May, my fellow colleague Vito Gesualdi revealed 7 characters he thought should be included in the upcoming PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale lineup. While it was a fine list — Solid Snake, Cloud and Dante would have been included on mine, as well — the PlayStation brand needs more of its stars in the game. While some third-party characters deserve to be included, the game should focus on characters and stages made famous on the PlayStation platform. The slight towards Fat Princess and Colonel Radec, aka that Killzone 2 enemy, hurt me as a big PlayStation fan. As my good friend Kanye West would say, your list was good, but my list is the best of all time… of all time.
With a large chunk of characters already being confirmed for the game, it’s getting hard to narrow the remaining pool of characters to choose from, especially first-party characters. But without further ado, these would be my five characters that I would add into PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as of September 21st.
#5 John Marston – Red Dead Redemption
This is the only character on my list that was never a Sony exclusive. Red Dead Redemption was one of my favorite games this generation, and the story’s main character deserves to make the cut on the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale roster. He could be set up with multiple gun styles, a horse, and a lasso to kill and annoy his enemies.
#4 Ethan Mars – Heavy Rain
Ethan Mars is the centerpiece of Heavy Rain, one of the best story-driven games ever made. Using different quicktime events to hurt his enemies would be hilarious in a mascot brawler, and he could be a nice change of pace character. In a part of the game (I won't spoil it), Ethan is presented a table of weapons, which could easily be his weapons in this game.
#3 Spyro the Dragon
Growing up in the original PlayStation era had its benefits. For one, I was able to experience Spyro the Dragon, which is still a classic to this day. Spyro has had a rough go since the days of the PS1 era, but was one of Sony’s original mascots and needs to have a roster spot in All-Stars. Fire breath and gliding would be obvious attacks, and he could be a very fast character in the game.
#2 Nathan Hale – Resistance 1 and 2
Nathan Hale is the main protagonist in the first and second Resistance games. If Nathan Hale can stand up to multiple Chimera attacks in two different countries, he earns a roster spot in my book. Having the ability to shoot multiple weapons and use his Chimera-infected body to good use should gaurantee him a spot. Hale would be an ideal medium-sized character in the game with multiple options available to him.
#1 Crash Bandicoot
How could Sony not include the original PlayStation mascot in a game based on PlayStation characters? Crash Bandicoot is an icon from the PlayStation 1 era and must be included at all costs. I know Crash hasn’t done anything in a while, but leaving him out of the game would be like leaving food out of a football viewing party — inexcusable. Crash would be a faster character, using his patented spin move in order to deal damage to his enemies, maybe even jump on their heads for old times sakes.
What did you think of my list? Would you like any of these characters included in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale? Who would you include? Let us know in the comments below.
