Get in the know

Ever heard of Free Running? Doesn’t ring a bell? How about Le Parkour? It’s the same thing only French. Still nothing? That’s too bad because you have probably seen it. Ever seen people running then doing an insane jump to another ledge or seemingly defy gravity by doing crazy stunt? That is exactly what Free Running is. Heck, even do a Google Video search for “Free Running OR Le Parkour” and you’ll find some videos that make you re-think your way to work, class, or StarBucks. The Free Running “movement” started back in Paris where a few guys would not see boundaries like everyone else. It is a very romantic view of how to break the norm and be different. Anyone who is a fan of extreme sports deserves to check it out.

Eventually recognition came when more and more people would get involved with Free Running. The most recent big press the Free Runners had was a Nike commercial. With all that intensity and style, a video game would lend itself nicely to this “street discipline.” Guess what, there is such a game coming to the PSP.

The appropriately named Free Running will let players take control of the streets with a character skilled in Free Running. It’s up to you to pull off as many sweet tricks as possible where others would just say “forget it, I would die attempting to do that!” There will be a slew of game modes that accompany the game like a freestyle mode to a time attack mode.

In a time of what many consumers and journalists alike claim to be a period of unoriginal games, along comes Free Running. This should be an original game because of the complete originality of the idea of Free Running. There is one question that begs to be answered. Will Free Running be played by those that practice it because of the portable and unattached nature of the PSP?
