Game of Thrones Season 5 wrap-up

Oh My Goodness! The Game of Thrones season finale was absolutely mind blowing. It had me overly ecstatic one moment to borderline depressed the next. Just to be clear, before we get further into this season wrap up, there will be some major spoilers, I'll try to keep them to a minimum, but no promises.

To be honest the beginning of season 5 was pretty much a struggle to watch, week after week nothing exciting happened, leaving us hoping that next week would finally prevail. Then finally we got episode 7, 'Hardhome'. This episode introduced the infamous White Walkers and oh man are they intense. Getting to see what they can do for the first time was not only awesome but terrifying at the same time. To overcome such a massive army like this it would take everyone in the realm to help fight them off. Now I finally understand why everyone is so deathly afraid of winter.

The White Walkers are just one thing that kept Game of Thrones interesting, we also got Sansa stuck at Winterfell with Ramsay Snow, Arya learning from the many faced gods, Tyrion's alliance with Daenerys and the elephant in the room, Jon Snow.

The ending scene of season 5 had me tense, heartbroken and a sense of betrayal. The Night's Watch had finally took matters into their own hands and decided to kill Jon Snow. This all stems from Snow wanting to bring the Wildlings over the Wall, so when the White Walkers do decide to fight, the Wildlings would fight alongside them. None of them wanted this to happen, but Jon being Lord Commander, made the decision and brought the Wildlings over. This could be by far the most heart wrenching deaths so far in the series. From the very beginning, Jon Snow was the fan favorite, and to see this happen is just downright awful. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth for the Night's Watch.

Meanwhile, in King's Landing, the High Sparrows have gained a lot of power and influence. Accusations of Queen Margeary are made and she is sentenced to jail until further notice. Cersei obviously never heard the expression 'what goes around comes around', but she will by the time season 5 wraps up. Once we see a broken, shaken up version of Cersei, it's almost impossible to not feel bad. Yes, she's certainly not a character you sympathize with, especially considering all the wrong she's done since the first season, but you can't help admit that watching her was hard to watch.  The rise of the Sparrows is definitely a scary thing for King's Landing, but I have no doubt once Cersei returns to her old state of mind, there will be hell to pay.

As this all transpires, Sir Jaime Lannister heads to Dorne to save his daughter. This was all due to the Dornish sending a warning with their daughter's necklace. The whole scene kind of drags for a couple of episodes, but finally starts to kick in when they encounter the Sand Snakes.

Over at Braavos, we see a more sophisticated Arya. It's amazing to see Arya become the mature young lady she is. She's learning from the many faced gods and training to become 'no one'. One part of Arya's interesting plot points were when Ser Meryn Trant makes his re-appearance. One particular scene was very intense, and it creates a very disturbing image in your head. Ser Meryn Trant was part of the king's guard who executed Arya's father, Ned Stark. Seeing Arya take him off her kill list is one of the most gratifying things yet, he deserved every second of it.

Talking about disturbing, I have two words, Stannis Baratheon. This man has gone off the deep end, he will do anything, and I mean ANYTHING to become King. It's pretty disappointing to see what he has become. The world of Game of Thrones is set in is such a grim environment, it's even hard to watch sometimes.

Tyrion, the most wanted dwarf in the realm has made his way to Meereen. When Tyrion and Daenerys meet is truly epic, it certainly has to be one of my top favorite moments of season 5. The dynamic duo between Tyrion's brilliant strategy mind to Daenerys' influence amongst men is a very dangerous thing. Having these two team up is beneficial for each other and it could possibly lead to a new era for the Iron Throne. It sets up a tremendous amount of promise for what is to come in season 6.

The last three episodes made Game of Thrones season 5 worth watching and it sets up season 6 with so much potential and promise. Game of Thrones knows how to keep its audience on its feet. Hats off to George RR Martin for writing these books, a genius if you were to ask me, as well as the show's writers and producers. Theres still plenty of questions left unanswered, could Jon possibly return by Mellisandra's powers? What happened to Arya? Will Sansa and Theon make it out alive? How will the Dothraki come into play in season 6? Whats going to happen to the shaken up Cersei? We will just have to wait to see, but in the meantime, sound off in the comments below as I would love to hear your take on Season 5 and some predictions on where season 6 might be going.
