‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2’ Post-Credits Breakdown

Over the last year, as news and rumors began to surface about the latest installment to the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise with ‘Vol. 2’, one update, in particular, was worrisome. It was announced that the end scene to which fans eagerly await after the credits would now feature five sequences, as opposed to the usual one or two. Keeping in mind that these scenes usually feature a major set-up for events to come, many were wondering if they were overdoing it a bit.

As luck would have it, most of the scenes were more like epilogue-style skits, just there for fun…and some being far more important. If you weren’t sure what some of these scenes meant to the grand scheme of the series (assuming they meant anything at all), here’s a breakdown of all five ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2’ post-credit scenes:

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Kraglin and Yondu’s Arrow

The first scene features Yondu’s right hand, Kraglin, practicing with his former captain’s sonically-steered arrow. As he practices, it gets away from him, piercing an unsuspecting Drax in the throat!

Ogord’s Ravagers

At this point, we’ve already met Sylvester Stallone’s character, Stakar Ogord. One of the post-credit scenes featured him and a team of odd-looking Ravagers who go by the names Martinex (Michael Rosenbaum), Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Mainframe (Miley Cyrus), Aleta Ogord, and Krugarr. They may be foreign to anyone who isn’t familiar with the comics, but this particular team, including Yondu Udonta, is actually the original version of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, later rebooted as ‘Guardians 3000’. Whether they were just there as a nod or actually have an involvement in future events still remains to be seen, but fans of the comics can appreciate the acknowledgment of the team’s lineage.

Adam

This is by far one of the most important scenes. We see Ayesha in her chambers, beaten and furious, swearing to destroy the Guardians. It was established earlier that the Sovereign are a race of humanoids who have actually developed a near perfect society through genetic manipulation. She directs our attention to a strange mechanical pod-structure, claiming she may have created the perfect representation of their species…which she decides to name Adam. This implies that one of the major players in the events of the Infinity War, Adam Warlock, is ready to be deployed.

Teenage Groot

We see Star-Lord enter living quarters that apparently belong to Groot. He finds him gaming on his bed, significantly taller and much more moody. It seems that Groot is growing exponentially by the day, although there’s no indication how long it’s been since the ending of the movie and this scene. This moment might indicate that by the time we see the Guardians again for the Infinity War, Groot could be back to his former glory and ready for battle.

Stan Lee Left Behind

The final scene features Stan Lee, who we met speaking with The Watchers earlier, now being left behind on the meteor where we found him, proceeding to shout after them, “Wait! You guys are supposed to be my lift home!” Clearly, whatever he was saying got boring after a while. Does this mean Stan is stuck there…forever! Not likely, but it was fun having two Stan the Man cameos in one movie.
