Namco has recently announced the development of Mage Knight: Destiny’s Soldier, a turn based strategy game set for the Nintendo DS.
“‘Mage Knight: Destiny’s Soldier’ is exactly what we had envisioned Mage Knight on the Nintendo DS to be,” said Jordan Weisman, CEO of WizKids. “We are pleased to license our intellectual property to a company that understands and appreciates how special it really is.”
For those unfamiliar with the series, Mage Knight is a popular table top game incorporating armies of figures. These figures each have their own set of attributes and special powers, as well as a point value associated with them.
Players amass armies of monsters, soldiers, and mythical creatures following the guidelines of the rule-book. They must decide if a larger army is more advantageous compared to a smaller, more powerful one.
Set for a Spring 2006 release, Mage Knight: Destiny’s Soldier puts players in the role of a recently retired soldier whom is forced to take to the sword once again. A group of monsters known as the Solonavi have embarked on a campaign to corrupt the world. It is up to the Destiny’s Soldier to amass a powerful army and overtake the Solonavi to bring peace back to the world.
“‘Mage Knight: Destiny’s Solider’ should appeal to those familiar and unfamiliar with the Mage Knight franchise,” said Jeff Lujan, business director at Namco Hometek Inc. “The sheer amount of storytelling, strategy gameplay, and army customization is a testament to how deep and rich the Mage Knight universe really is. We are very excited to bring this unique and innovative tabletop gaming experience to the Nintendo DS.”
The forthcoming game is set to take advantage of the properties offered by the Nintendo DS. As a table-top game, Mage Knight has traditionally required a hefty amount of dice rolling, extensive movement, and troop placement. These time consuming functions are set to be mitigated by the touch screen of the portable.
