Mario 3 VS 3 Basketball Announced

Nintendo has recently revealed that Square-Enix is developing a Mario themed sports title on the Nintendo DS.

The upcoming game, Mario 3 vs 3 Basketball has already been in development for some time now, and is slated for a 2006 release.

The title is set to play as a traditional Nintendo sports themed game is known to. The game will feature traditional elements of basketball, as well as special moves unique to their respective characters.

Presented in a fully 3 dimensional aspect, the top screen of the DS will show the action, while the touch screen will control the ball movement. Yes, Square-Enix has chosen to control the game via the touch screen and stylus.

Square-Enix president, Yoichi Wada announced the game today at Nintendo’s WiFi press conference in Japan. According to the president, it was his company who came to Nintendo with the idea for the upcoming basketball game.

Wada and Square-Enix feel that a basketball title is the perfect fit for the Nintendo DS, as the touch screen will provide a new and unique way of handling ball movement.
