Nintendo has recently revealed that in its opening week, Mario Kart DS has sold over 112,000 copies. The company has also reported that 52,000, some forty five percent of those who purchased the title have already utilized the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
Nintendo appears to be very pleased with the success of the game so far. The company feels that by the end of its life cycle, Mario Kart DS will indeed be a million seller. With over one hundred thousand copies sold, the title is well on its way to meet this mark.
Mario Kart DS is slated to release in Europe this coming week, with the game set to arrive in Japan in December. While forty five percent of the game’s owners have utilized the online service, the company desires a greater percentage of users experience network play.
The service is sure to see a boost in usage, as additional Wi-Fi hotspots are implemented throughout North America at McDonalds locations. Additional online enabled titles such as Animal Crossing: Wild World and Metroid Prime Hunters are also expected to further diversify the service, as these titles are slated to release in the coming months. Animal Crossing is set to arrive shortly, with a December 5th, 2005 and Metroid arriving in late March.
