Pokemon Dungeon has been in development for several months now. However, details regarding the nature of the title have only recently emerged.
Fans of the Nintendo DS have been awaiting the arrival of a Pokemon game for the system since its launch in late November. It is now known that Dungeon will indeed be the first game in the series to release for the portable when it releases this November in Japan.
Two versions of the game are in the works, one for the Game Boy Advance, and one for the DS. The DS version will function as the “Blue” version while the GBA will be the “Red” variant.
Dungeon is set to break away from the traditions of the series, as gamers will take the form of their very own Pokemon in this adventure. Importers beware; when the game begins, a series of questions will be asked that will determine the starting creature that you will play as.
It may seem weird that Nintendo is actually going to let gamers play the game as an actual Pokemon instead of a trainer, but the game’s human protagonist is actually altered into this form.
Several characters will be available to play when the game releases, and your Pokemon will be immediately joined by a partner, and later by other creatures you encounter.
Fans of the series have no reason to fret. The traditional play mechanics of the series are set to remain intact. As usual, your party encounters wild Pokemon in dungeons and other areas in pure turn based style. Each of your team’s Pokemon will also have the opportunity to learn up to four moves as they have in the previous iterations of the series.
To make up for this lack of innovation, the developer, ChunSoft has included another all new element to the series. The game’s several dungeons will be randomized and consist of multiple floors.
While in these dungeons, a new play mechanic is introduced. Gamers will have to keep track of their Pokemon’s level of hunger. If the critters are starving for instance, damage will begin to occur in a matter similar to that if your creature was poisoned. Food can be found in the dungeons, and may be available for purchase from the title’s various stores.
The structure of the game has also shifted towards a new mission-based method. The world of Pokemon Dungeon has been riddled with natural disasters, resulting in unrest for the creatures that inhabit the region.
As a component of a Rescue Force (Red or Blue), your party will embark on various missions. These quests will vary in difficulty and can be obtained from several in game sources such as direct contact, and even a message board.
The game’s official site can be viewed here where several images of the game in action are present. DS Advanced has also obtained several screens of the title, and these can be viewed in our media section for this game.
With Pokemon Dungeon set to release in the coming months, expect to hear more about this title in the next few weeks. Be sure to stick with DS Advanced for continued coverage.
