Resident Evil DS: First Details; Screens

Last month, England’s NGC Magazine included a report apparently confirming the existence of a Resident Evil game coming to the Nintendo DS. However, gamers still weren’t sold on the fact that the game would include the much-touted Resident Evil 4-esque camera perspective.

This morning, recent rumblings can confirm the first in-game screenshots of Resident Evil DS.

Famitsu Weekly, Japan’s most respected and biggest publication on video-gaming, included the first details on Biohazard: Deadly Silence.

The pictures seem to be highly-similar, to the original Resident Evil for the Playstation. Apparent from the scans, the title will be the culmination of Biohazard’s [Resident Evil] 10th Anniversary.

With so many elements in the previous Playstation classic, the first addition in the franchise set several standards in the video-gaming spectrum. In fact, the DS title appears to mirror the full-3D look. Oddly enough, there was no evidence of a Resident Evil 4 camera angle. However, there’s still chances of the game implementing RE4’s more intuitive enhancements. Still, the game’s original plot remains intact – Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield in the original famed mansion. Touch-screen additions apparently include code-button pressing, and the infamous knife-slash [via a first-person view against the zombies]. One screen even shows blood splatter blocking the player’s view on the bottom-screen. Could the touch-screen become another element of this addition?

Once again, cut-scenes are included – possibly dynamic ones. And the gaming backgrounds actually appear to be drawn polygons, rather than pre-rendered backgrounds in the original PS1 version.

Images for the magazine scans are available here and here.

Biohazard [Resident Evil]: Deadly Silence could prove to be a must-have for fans of the series, and definitely an intriguing project graphically for the DS.

We’ll have more information in the near future about the RE remake, ironically named Deadly Silence in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

Updated 8-24-05:

More details from Deadly Silence have been uncovered. The first-person view of the “knife battle” has been confirmed, but it’s still unclear how the touch-screen could be implemented in the new gameplay mechanic. Another new element includes a “CPR-like” rescue, which may include usage of the DS microphone (shown in one screenshot). Wi-Fi capabilities are also reported to be included in the game, although more concrete details on this feature have yet to be unveiled.

Look for this game to release in 2006, when the series’ 10th anniversary comes into full effect.
