Sega has announced today that their current-generation multiplatform title, Sonic Riders has started shipping for the Nintendo GameCube, Playstation 2, and Xbox gaming platforms. As an air-board racer, Sonic Riders incorporates the popular characters from the Sonic franchise into a fast paced, “electrifying” racing gameplay experience.
“Sonic Riders is adding a new dimension to racing games,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. “The blending of the action-racing genre and the Sonic franchise has created a racing game that both hardcore Sonic fans and entire families are sure to enjoy.”
In the newly released game, players race on air-boards across detailed, colorful environments in an effort to thwart the evil plans of Dr. Eggman and his cronies. Throughout the game’s numerous racing locations, Sonic and his pals attempt to uncover the true nature of the villain’s newly established Grand Pix.
The racing tracks of Sonic Riders are set to be fully equipped with a myriad of gold rings, power-ups, and jump-ramps providing racers with the opportunity to perform several acrobatic tricks.
The game will also feature cooperative and competitive multiplayer gaming modes supporting up to four individual users. Sega has packed the game full with numerous characters from the Sonic universe as well as a wide assortment of equipment upgrades and unlockable content.
