True Swing Golf

The Nintendo DS library is expanding quickly and the major genres are getting a lot of attention from publishers and developers. As of right now, the only golf game available on the Nintendo DS is EA Sports’ Tiger Woods PGA Tour series; but Nintendo is about to hand Tiger some competition.

True Swing Golf, developed by T&E Soft, is looking to be a unique title that aims to make use of the unique DS hardware features. For starters, the game will feature a touch screen swing implementation that will allow players to choose the angle in which they strike the ball; allowing for intentional draws, fades, hooks, and slices. The game will also make use of the DS wireless capabilities for up to four player matches with a single cartridge. With multiple cartridges extra options will be available, however.

It’s a bit early to make a solid judgement on True Swing Golf’s gameplay, but it played well last time we had a chance to spend time with it when it was known as Touch Golf. The power of the swing is determined by the length that the player moves the stylus across the touch pad and the accuracy of the shot by the angle of the movement.

Nintendo has stated that the game will feature eight playable characters, over 15 courses, character customization, and a variety of gameplay modes; all which add up to the most complete DS golf title on the horizon. True Swing Golf is over a year into the development cycle and it should be a well-polished and enjoyable experience for golf simulation fans when it releases January 23rd, 2006.
