Pelican Screen Protectors

So you just shelled out US$150 for your Nintendo DS and you’re probably just a little bit worried about those pretty screens. Nothing seems to annoy a high-end electronics owner more than a scratch, however small it may be. The design of the Nintendo DS will save your dual screens from the majority of scratches they might receive, but strange things do happen.

Earlier today I picked up set of screen protectors and a cleaning cloth made by Pelican. The top screen protector is completely transparent and you really can’t tell that anything is there once applied. I really like the idea of my screen being protected because I don’t have to worry about small scratches when I’m wiping off dust or finger prints. You aren’t so worried about using your shirt anymore once you have one of these reassurances either. The one major downside of the top screen protector comes when you wish to remove it. Unlike most PDA protectors, the top screen protector uses adhesive and it will leave a nasty surprise on your screen when you take it off. It takes some serious elbow grease to get the stickiness off afterwards, so it’s best to just apply it and leave it alone.

The bottom screen protector isn’t quite as nice, but it does have one feature I really like. The screen isn’t totally transparent, so your screen will reflect less glare when you are in a bright room. The big drawback of this protector is that it is too small. You’re left with a little bit of your screen completely unprotected around the edges of the cover, but it isn’t so bad if the visible edge doesn’t bother you.

Both screens are pretty thick, so they do offer great protection, and they don’t feel like they will lose their adhesive any time soon. While you do get a nice cleaning cloth to go along with the protectors, US$9.99 does seem a little steep for two pieces of clear plastic and adhesive, but in the end you are paying for peace of mind.
