The weekly sales figures for Japan have arrived for the week between December 5th through the 12th. As usual, these numbers are derived from the Japanese market research company, Media-Create. Check out the chart below.
Hardware Numbers
The previous week in Japan brought with it an almost unprecedented increase in the hardware units sold of the Nintendo DS, as the portable almost doubled it’s weekly sales status from the previous week of November 28th through December 5th with the system having sold almost three hundred thousand units. The high profile release of Mario Kart DS in the region, the game has sold over two hundred thousand copies in it’s first week on the market, along with the continued success of Nintendo DS titles such as Animal Crossing: Wild World and Tamagotchi DS has conceivably contributed greatly to the rise in units sold.
While Animal Crossing DS placed a moderate fourth on the sales chart, it’s popularity can not be discounted, as the title racked up an additional one hundred and twenty thousand copies sold bringing the three week total to a stellar 577,278. I should be interesting to see how this title performs in the coming weeks. As it currently stands, Animal Crossing: Wild World is a surefire lock to top, and possibly crumble the one million mark. However, it is important to note that the anticipated followup to the Brain Training series is set to release shortly in Japan adjoined with the arrival of Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time in the region.
