The week of March 27th through April 2nd saw both the release of several notable titles as well as the continued success of games like Animal Crossing and Final Fantasy 12. Sony had a particularly strong two games from Sega and Banpresto selling around 150,000 and 110,000 copies each.
Final Fantasy 12 continued its string of success in Japan pulling in roughly 86,000 copies last week but fell down amongst the sales charts due to the releases of Pro Soccer wo Tsukurou Europe Championship and Another Century’s Episode 2. In terms of the PSP, Sony has also faired off pretty well, as the portable system saw the release of two notable titles from Konami and Bandai with a baseball game and naruto title available now respectively.
In terms of Nintendo, the previous week in Japan was also successful, as the company’s list of “non-games” continued to dominate the sales charts.Moving up on the charts was Brain Training 2 which managed to accumulate an impressive total of 86,000 units sold, placing it at third on the chart. In addition to Brain Training 2, both the original title in the series as well as English Training performed admirably as well, selling some 52 and 50 thousand units respectively.
Two more traditional titles from the company, Animal Crossing and Pokemon Ranger also remained high sellers last week, as Ranger pulled in 83 thousand copies and Animal Crossing continued to sell above 80 thousand.

Update
Hardware numbers for the previous week in Japan have arrived and once again the Nintendo DS Lite stands atop the region’s sales charts. The upgraded handheld device sold close to 150,000 units while the original model accumulated some 50,000.
While Sony platforms faired very well in the software aspect, their associated hardware figures continued to remain moderate with the PSP selling close to 37,000 units and the PS2 33,000.
