Some of you might have noticed that a new title in Capcom’s celebrated Ace Attorney series was released on the Nintendo DS this week, as well as a new port on WiiWare. In all, it’s a good week for seeking out the truth.
And to kick things off, Capcom has released a launch trailer for the DS title, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, which mixes a different style of gameplay with the elements so many have come to know and love from the series:
A neat trailer, though the back and forth between the Japanese dialogue and the English sound bytes is a tad jarring, to say nothing of simply weird.
Naturally, upon the release of such a title, many are trying to get in a few words with the game’s creators. In one such case, the U.K.’s Official Nintendo Magazine allowed its readers to put forth questions to Director Shu Takami, who was asked about the success of the series overseas.
“The Ace Attorney franchise is a materialised form of my ideals of the mystery genre,” he replied. “I am also a big fan of courtroom drama so I knew the first Ace Attorney would be a good game but…I wasn’t expecting it to be this popular – I didn’t even dream of a day Phoenix Wright went abroad!”
Elsewhere, Nintendo World Report (via GoNintendo) had the opportunity to sit down with Producer Motohide Eshiro for an interview, and discussed the latest installment’s differences and commonalities to past iterations before addressing the series’ future:
NWR: If proven successful, will there be other Ace Attorney spin-off titles featuring other characters?
ME: As of now, we aren’t planning to make any spin-off titles. I actually want everyone to first enjoy this new Ace Attorney Investigations and then see where things go from there. However, if we receive many fan requests in the future, I will get together with the team to discuss the possibility, so all your opinions and support really matters for this.
NWR: With the previous Ace Attorney games set to be re-released as WiiWare titles, is a full-fledged Wii title in the cards for you and your team?
ME: As of now, we aren’t planning to have a WiiWare version yet. Also, we aren’t planning to have an original Ace Attorney game dedicated for Wii platform.
