IGN has pounced upon the opportunity to reveal the final two characters in the lineup for the Western release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. And as rumored before, Joe the Condor has swooped in to join the fantastic flying fighting force of Gatchaman, alongside his allies Jun the Swan and Ken the Eagle:
If we wind up with a third edition of this game, or maybe a sequel, I can’t say I’d be surprised if the entire team found itself up to bat.
Of course, Joe isn’t the only new guy joining the fight this week. Because in the end, everything becomes Zero.
Before you, a streak of red light beams onto the field. But don’t let the appearance of the short young man with long hair fool you; he has taken down countless renegade robots, and exists as the stuff of legend.
Or at least he would, if he weren’t from a century into the future.
Indeed, Zero joins the side of Capcom and the other two Mega Man franchise characters, Roll and MegaMan Volnutt, in his long-awaited fighting game debut. And yes, I know Zero was in SVC Chaos, but that was a version of him from further in the future. Don’t you just love time travel and the paradoxes it brings?
In any case, just like the games in which he features and stars, Zero doesn’t mess around here, fighting with his trademark Z-Saber and some of his learned skills, such as the Ryuuenjin flaming sword attack from Mega Man X4, one of his many earth-shattering punches, his air-dash, what looks like a charged Z-Buster move (not unlike Mega Man’s in the Marvel vs. Capcom titles), and an interesting super move employing Dark Dizzy’s Dark Hold move from Mega Man X5, which fixes his opponent in place before he runs them through with a large blade based on his future Mega Man Zero series form, finishing off the combatant in a grand fashion that would make any number of Sentai teams proud.
And with his foe defeated, Zero doesn’t stick around for a victory celebration; he beams away, ready to begin his next mission.
That said, apologies to those who are fans of Joe the Condor; I simply don’t know as much about him. But similar to what I said above about the rest of Gatchaman showing up, it wouldn’t surprise me if we saw more Mega Man characters from other series in another version of this title.
