Back when the first bits of Kojima’s infamous teaser began to appear, I was admittedly naive enough to believe that he might actually be working on something that wasn’t Metal Gear. Well, we all know by now just how wrong I turned out to be. Only, not entirely.
Knowing that Kojima was something of a movie buff, I thought, in light of the teaser, that perhaps one film that might have inspired him elsewhere could have been Twister, or perhaps something similar. And with that, I thought that his new game could involve tornadoes.
Well, as luck would have it, Konami is doing a game about tornadoes, but without Kojima, it would seem. And rather than chasing them, you actually get to control them.
Tornado Outbreak is in development by Loose Cannon Studios for the Wii, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Slated for a September 2009 release, the game sees players take control of the raging winds to rip apart environments and wreck the landscape, spitting it back out in the process.
“Tornado Outbreak delivers humor filled missions and varying
objectives,” says the press release, “ranging from blustery mischief at a local trailer park to
gale force feats in the middle of sprawling cityscapes. Diverse action
packed gameplay provides both casual and hardcore gamers the ability
to tear through towns in beautifully stylized high definition action.
A new storm is upon us, tear it up!”
The trailer below introduces Zephyr, “the comic filled unlikely hero,” and shows off three levels of gameplay. Other features shown include are collection and time challenges, and a boss battle with the evil Omegaton.
