Media: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom – Gameplay, All-Shooters, and Nintendo World Launch Event

We have a triple-helping of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars fun in store today. And the first item on the list? Legendary Digger MegaMan Volnutt teams up with photojournalist Frank West (who’s covered wars) to take on the team of Joe the Condor and Jun the Swan:

Hmm, the lines Frank has make me wish that the rest had been translated to English, too.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though; IGN and Capcom*Unity have revealed that there will be another game mode included in the title: TvC: Ultimate All-Shooters, a 2D shoot-em-up in the style of such oldschool Capcom fare as Legendary Wings and Commando.

It takes place on the snowy fields of Lost Planet as up to four characters take on swarms of Akrid bugs. Players can choose from Ryu and PTX-40A from Capcom, and Ken the Eagle and Tekkaman from Tatsunoko:

“All of the characters move in their own way,” Capcom says, “and have character-specific regular and special attacks (shinku-hadoken anyone?). It has mini-bosses, bosses, and MEGA bosses, different paths to take through the game, and you can play up to 4-player coop!”

On another note: if you’ll be in the area of New York’s Times Square and you are not interested in the lenticular trading cards GameStop is offering up for pre-order, then this may be for you. The Nintendo World Store at Rockefeller Center is hosting a Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars launch event on Saturday, January 23rd. Capcom*Unity notes:

We’ll obviously have a lot of TvC on display, plus exclusive give-aways (think posters, shirts, and our famous TvC towels), raffles, combo competitions, and if it’s cold, maybe even some hot cocoa. I’ll be there to staff the kissing booth (*note to health officials, there is no kissing booth), and producer Niitsuma-san will be on hand to autograph anything you can get in the door.

They note that the event will run from 11am until 3pm, “and cosplayers can cut in line, so if you’ve got one of these, it’s time to bust it out of the closet.”

I have no idea if they’re serious or not, so why take chances?

Finally, Capcom Community Manager Seth Killian stopped by GameSpot’s “On the Spot” with TVC/Marvel vs. Capcom/Street Fighter IV master Justin Wong to show off some tips and tricks for using Yatterman 2 and Zero. You can check that out at the 13:30 mark when you click here (sorry, but their embeds slow page loading to a crawl).
