Famed Mario and Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto is well-known for making video games based on his latest interests and hobbies. For example, Miyamoto’s Pikmin series was inspired by his time in his garden and he came up with the idea for Wii Fit because of his obsession with his weight. Nintendo is aware of the reoccurring theme and has banned Miyamoto from talking about his hobbies in public.
It’s not that they are naughty, illegal or even nerdish, it’s just that any glimpse inside his head could be worth billions. Particularly so now as the Wii still sells strongly around the world, but its successor is the talking point. Unfortunately, the only place where the discussion has any grounding is inside Mr Miyamoto’s head. — Times Online
I think that Nintendo’s being a little overprotective here. It reminds me of when Nintendo was afraid that someone would steal the waterpack idea in Super Mario Sunshine if they showed it too early.
