More DS Wi-Fi Connection Details

Advanced Media Network site, Revo-Europe.com, today reported some interesting new details regarding the DS Wi-Fi setup.

At the Digital Life Expo in New York, Nintendo had their DS Wi-Fi Connection-enabled games (Mario Kart DS and Animal Crossing) up for display. Luckily, some shrewd convention-goers took it upon themselves to check out the menu options for Wi-Fi Connection and came away with reassuring details.

Setting up the DS to connect to a wireless source looks to be a snap. Users will be able to save three different connection settings, handy for when a DS owner frequents multiple locations (and therefore multiple wireless access points.) Each of those three connections allow for the option to either search for a wireless network, exercise one-touch AOSS support built into Buffalo-branded routers and certain access points, or to input settings manually. Within the “Manual Setup” menu, information such as the DNS can either be automatically detected or explicitly entered, an SSID and WEP key can be assigned and DHCP or manual IP settings can be identified.

In a convenient stroke, settings can also be transferred to other DS wirelessly (LAN). Finally, there is an especially easy one-touch connection option specifically for DS owners utilizing the USB Wi-Fi adapter. With all the above options present, gamers can feel at ease as it can be seen that the DS Wi-Fi setup is reasonably robust. The menu system itself is laid out very simply in an easy-to-use and straightforward fashion (notice the oft-repeated concept of “easy-to-use,” a Nintendo goal from the start).

All systems seem to be go for the Wi-Fi Connection, with the promise that in a month’s time DS owners will be easily accessing their wireless online connections to play with and against distant players. Look forward to more details as they are revealed. *
