Mystery DS Port: External Microphone?

Hyped up by reports from Nintendo of Japan and Nintendo Dream Magazine, the mystery DS port was revealed today by GBA.N64Europe.com to simply be for an external microphone.

The European website is reporting that Nintendo’s square-shaped port [at the right-side of the handheld’s bottom] will be used for a special headset plug. Obviously, a headset for the DS would be miles better than its internal microphone, providing more clarity and recognition for audio-savvy gamers. Internal microphones tend to take up more background noise, so the addition is certainly an upgrade.

GCA has contacted Nintendo for official comment, yet to no avail as the company does not comment on “rumors.” However, based on the documentation from the European website, we’re expecting some sort of announcement soon.
