When the Game Boy Advance hit the market, not only did it bring great battery life and great games, it brought a new feature to the handheld market; sleep mode. While not programmed into the system itself, many games included this option built into the software that would save a good amount of battery life. Now with the Nintendo DS, sleep mode is built straight into the system.
Instead of going through a menu screen like with some Game Boy Advance games, sleep mode is directly activated by closing the system. On doing so, it will pause the game and power down to a low battery consumption by turning off the two back-lit screens and other features that help drain the battery.
Another unique feature of the Nintendo DS is that it will feature a boot-up menu similar to that of the Nintendo GameCube. However with the Nintendo DS, from the menu, you can access Picto-Chat, either the DS or GBA game, download programs using the wireless features, change the time, and regional settings.
Also like the Nintendo GameCube, whenever a game is in the system, it shows a graphic of the game and a tidbit of information about the game, similar to the memory card functions on the GameCube.
Expect more details about both of these features this upcoming Thursday.
